STUDY ON OPTICAL SENSORS TO MEASURE FIELD STRENGTH AND DISTRIBUTION IN PROCESSING APPLICATOR
Yoshio Nikawa
Abstract: The complex permittivity and the permeability of material change largely as its temperature while processing. Hence, the conditions of processing applicator to radiate microwave energy to the material change largely and this cause to reducec the absorbing power to the processing material and the efficiency reduction of the applicator. This paper shows a microwave field visualizing equipment which can indicate three directional oriented magnetic field as well as corresponding field strength. The sensor is small enough not to disturb the original field and made of series connection of schottky barrier diode and LED in the miniature loop. To set the sensors in the applicator of which is made of transparent wall, the field strength and distribution can be indicated. The optical sensors set inside the processing applicator measure the field intensity inside and also can measure the field intensity in processing material. The sensing luminous intensity is used to control tuning circuit and power source as well. The processing applicator with system is well tuned and can be measured field strength inside applicator and processing material as well in the processing procedure.
